Since we moved into our new home last August, I’ve been mentally plotting and scheming about what I can do with the place. I love moving into a new house because they are essentially blank canvas. This one even more so, given that it was still a building site 11 days before we moved in. With magnolia walls, the possibilities are endless.
Currently, my living room is an unappealing jumble of black, brown, red, and cream. But I’ve spent the last two years being so skint that I’ve jumbled the cheapest furniture I can find together. Having been working hard to secure a better financial situation for us, I’ve started feeling a little freer to plan an exquisitely beautiful living room.

The Sofa
The sofas I have are brown leather, I’ve had it for five years, and it was second hand then… it’s seen better days. I’m very much looking forward to replacing it with a new sofa. I am thinking of a light grey, maybe silvery, corner sofa. Leather maybe. Adding a few ochre-coloured scatter cushions and a geometric patterned throw on each side.
The desk, bookcases, and other furniture
Half of the living room is my home office, including my desk and bookcases. At the moment, it’s all black, but I’d like to replace it all with solid oak. I’ve had a browse around and was shocked at the price of decent, quality furniture – it’s been a long time since I looked at anything that wasn’t a flat pack set from Argos or Amazon. I am looking at quality furniture that will last, so I know I’ll pay for it.

The Accessories
Currently, all accessories in the room are red and cream. Making a move to grey and mustard will be huge, considering my living room has been red through three house moves in 11 years. I’m excited about it, though and think it may be a big step in moving forward towards the rest of my life.
It all sounds very exciting. I love re-decorating rooms in my home. We have done most of them in the last year and I just love our home now.
We have just started on our kitchen and the painting is done but we need to get the flooring in, buying the finishing touches though is my favourite part! We have gone for a dark green and white on the walls to go with the black tiles that were there so all the accessories are all gold and black and it looks so classic and expensive even if it all came from B&M!
Enjoy the process x x
Thank you! 🙂 Re-decorating is fun, but I think I’m definitely going to get someone to help me pain the house. 🙂
I love totally re decorating rooms, we are literally doing this on a huge scale at the moment, first the bathroom, then our bedroom and now discussing our living room.
Ahhh, well done! It’s a challenge to get any painting done sometimes… I’ve decided to take it slow with this house. 🙂
It sounds like you have some really amazing ideas for your living area, I think it is such an important room of the home to feel relaxed and be able to unwind and have family time in.
Sounds like you have got it all planned out and it will look absolutely incredible! Sometimes it can be tough making such a big change but I think it will look amazing.
We moved at the end of last year and just about getting our living space into order. The wait for our new furniture has been delayed, so we all have mix-matched stuff too!
I love decorating and grand designs are my favourite things, I need a new book case to finish up my space.
I live in a rented house at the moment but I am currently saving up for my own place. I can’t wait until I can get decorating, it must be lovely to make a space feel like your own.
Grey and mustard colour combination sounds amazing! I can’t wait to see how the end design will look like once you have finished it
